Sony BMG Officially Dumps DRM! All Music Freed! : Christopher Null : Yahoo! Tech

Sony must have figured that out in short order, because the DRM-free tracks are now, finally, coming to Amazon, along with those of all the other Big Four record labels.

Europe Wants To Force DRM Interoperability

Currently DRM standards from providers including Apple and Microsoft are not compatible, resulting in device lock-in that discriminates against consumers who wish to use their legal purchases on multiple devices, or even switch between devices, say from an iPod to a Zune.

Deals: Fox to allow DVD copying on Apple's iTunes

Also in Apple's movie rental deal yesterday with Fox: Apple will license its FairPlay copy-protection technology to the studio for DVD movie releases. This will allow DVD purchasers to easily -- and legally -- copy movies to their computers for playback on iPods and iPhones.

Wait a second, when did Fox become kind of cool?

Reversing Everything: Mobipocket books on Kindle

We've known for some time already that Amazon's AZW files are actually Mobi files, but Amazon didn't share Kindle's Mobi PID which would allow one to buy encrypted Mobi books for Kindle.

Well, that's one way to crack DRM, but not exactly the point...

Live Free or DRM

The DRM camp is now saying that copying is good—to a degree. The upcoming DVD release on November 20 of Live Free or Die Hard will be the first to allow digital copies to your PC and one other USB-attached device.

Some hardcore baseball fans have been left stranded on third base by Major League Baseball after it decided to change DRM systems. As a result, game footage purchased under the old DRM scheme are no longer viewable, leaving fans with unwatchable footage—and no refunds.
