Prince To Take On The Pirate Bay | TorrentFreak

rince, described by some people as one of the most creative and talented musicians, hired the infamous “Web Sheriff” who announced lawsuits against The Pirate Bay in the U.S., France and Sweden. “Way to go on losing all your fans” was the first response of Pirate Bay admin Brokep.

Important to note that the lawsuit was NOT filed in Prince's home country of Munchkinland.

If a woman found to have shared 24 songs over KaZaA was ordered to pay 9,250 for each track, what do you think an appropriate fine for uploading the first copy of The Simpsons Movie to the Internet? According to an Australian magistrate, AUS1,000, or about US890.

Wow, a settlement I can almost afford...

Hungary Shuts Down BitTorrent Sites, Pre-Empts US Action | TorrentFreak

Last week saw many Hungarian BitTorrent trackers and warez sites shut down by the police. Is it just a coincidence that the US is planning to put a federal prosecutor in Budapest, Hungary to “assist in the coordination of the enforcement of intellectual property laws”? Probably not.

The jokes are just too easy on this one so I'll take a pass...

Recent comments by the head of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police's federal investigations agency and questions of copyright theft about its intellectual property enforcement priorities prove once and for all that Canada truly is the more sensible North American country.

New bill would punish colleges, students who don't become copyright cops

A massive education bill (747-page PDF) introduced into Congress contains a provision that would force colleges and universities to offer "technology-based deterrents" to file-sharing under the pain of losing all federal financial aid.

When a problem comes along you must... run to Congress.

The DRM camp is now saying that copying is good—to a degree. The upcoming DVD release on November 20 of Live Free or Die Hard will be the first to allow digital copies to your PC and one other USB-attached device.

Comcast Sued for Not Being Net Neutral

Comcast got into some hot water after it was uncovered that the cable company and broadband provider was blocking p2p service BitTorrent, among others. And now Comcast is being taken to court.

Cox Admits to Being Not Net Neutral

Robb Topolski, who initially discovered Comcast’s traffic shaping practices, took a look at Cox’s connectivity at the behest of DSL Reports. In analyzing user logs, he concluded that “Cox is indeed using traffic shaping hardware to send forged TCP/IP packets with the RST (reset) flag set.”

Now you know why this podcast sucks too...

Covering Florida: Orlando man pleads guilty for violating Family Entertainment Copyright Act through Elite Torrents network

The U.S. Justice Dept. says An Duc Do, 25, of Orlando, was an “uploader to the Elite Torrents network, responsible for supplying the network with the first copy of a particular movie or other content that was then made available to the entire network for downloading.”

Wait a second, what was that about the warning?
